I Watched Holey Moley So You Don’t Have To

A couple nights ago, I stumbled across the holy grail: A mini-golf reality competition show produced by one of the stars of the NBA. Holey Moley, from executive producer Steph Curry, airs on ABC and features commentators Rob Riggle and Joe Tessitore.

I watched it so you don’t have to.

I’m not going to lie to you, I spent a pretty pleasurable hour watching this show. Holey Moley is exactly what you’d expect it to be. It’s goofy, it’s ridiculous, it’s cheesy, it’s absurd. But it’s also fun. This isn’t the show to binge watch or it’ll lose its charm. This isn’t the show to watch alone or you’d be forced to examine your life and the choices you’ve made that got you to this point. This is a show to throw on with the full expectation that you’re about to watch something ridiculous and stupid, but you’re going to enjoy it anyway.

In the episode I watched, a young guy in American themed pants had a two-stroke lead against an elderly kilt enthusiast. All he had to do was two tap his ball into the hole from not far out, and he advanced to the next round. He took the first shot and it was too hard, rolling over the hole. No big deal. He was closer now and just had to sink an easy put to win. He got too cocky and choked it. So they tied and went to a sudden death put off. The old kilt-man, riding a wave of adrenaline he had never before experienced I’m sure, sank his put like an old pro. The young man, clearly rattled, fluffed his and the old man advanced. It was riveting.

Later in the same episode, Steph Curry competed against a robot or something. I’m honestly not sure what was happening at that point, it got a bit hazy, and there was some guy playing who bragged about never having read a book in his life.

All in all, I will almost definitely never watch this show again. Once is enough. But I’m glad I watched it that one time.
